Galaxy S23 One UI 9 Stable Update Reaches Europe, Beta Users First

Stable One UI 9 (Android 17) is now leaving South Korea for the Galaxy S23 series, with European beta testers first and everyone else still waiting.

Key takeaways

  • SamMobile reports that European Galaxy S23 beta users began getting stable One UI 9 on October 19, 2026, as build S91xBXXUAGZIF.
  • Non-beta owners outside South Korea have no confirmed date. Our Galaxy S23+ in Nigeria is now updated to One UI 9.0.
  • This is the S23 series' fourth and final promised Android upgrade. The Galaxy S23 FE is not part of this rollout.

Samsung's stable One UI 9 update for the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra has started reaching phones outside South Korea. SamMobile reports that European units enrolled in the One UI 9 beta began receiving it on October 19, 2026.

One UI is Samsung's software layer on top of Android. Version 9 is based on Android 17. The European firmware is S91xBXXUAGZIF, where "x" stands for 1, 6 or 8 (S23, S23+ or S23 Ultra). SamMobile puts the beta-to-stable OTA (over-the-air) download at 516.69MB. We updated ours with about 3.5GB.

The European release rests on SamMobile's reporting. Samsung has not confirmed it.

Who has it now and who is still waiting

Beta testers are first in line. This matches the Korean rollout, where Android Authority reported beta users got the stable build before anyone else. Their download is small because they already run near-final code.

Non-beta owners in Europe are next. On October 19, SamMobile expected other units and more countries to follow within hours. We have not seen a confirmed report of that wider wave yet.

In Nigeria, our Galaxy S23+ is now updated to One UI 9.0 on the Software update screen. No source we reviewed reports an African release. Expect a large download when it arrives. Korean non-beta owners got a 3.85GB package, according to Sammy Fans.

US carrier models have no verified date. TechRepublic noted no carrier rollout as of October 16. The Galaxy S23 FE runs on a separate track and has not received a stable build.

How fast this rollout moved

Samsung started the stable rollout on September 16, 2026, with the Galaxy S26 series. Its official announcement said only that "the update is expected to gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices."

The S23 reached Korea four weeks later. Android Authority noted that this came a couple of days after the Galaxy S24 got its US update. Korea to Europe then took five days, from October 14 to October 19. Newer models came first, so the S23 was always going to be near the end of the flagship queue. Our Galaxy S25 One UI 9 stable rollout coverage shows how an earlier wave played out.

Confirmed, reported and unclear

StatusDetail
Confirmed by SamsungRollout began September 16 and is expanding gradually. Privacy Alerts, which uses on-device AI to flag background permission access, lists the Galaxy S23 as supported.
Confirmed by two outletsKorean stable release from October 14. Changes include Quick Panel customization, DeX and Samsung Notes upgrades, accessibility updates and a location privacy indicator.
Reported by one outletEuropean build, 516.69MB size and beta-first order (SamMobile). 3.85GB Korean non-beta package (Sammy Fans). October 2026 security patch in the S23 build.
UnclearThe full Galaxy AI feature set on the S23. Android Authority said Korean release notes had not been updated. Dates for Africa, the US and non-beta Europe.

If the October 2026 patch is included as reported, it carries real weight. Samsung's October 2026 security bulletin applies 45 Android fixes from Google. Nine are rated critical and 33 high.

Should you install it now

On the One UI 9 beta: install it. The download is about half a gigabyte, and it moves you to the final stable build.

On One UI 8.5 in Korea or Europe: install when it appears, but plan for it. Use Wi-Fi, check that you have several gigabytes free, and back up first. The sources we reviewed report no widespread bugs. That could change as more non-beta users update.

In Nigeria and other markets released: The OTA is now available. Sideloading firmware from another region is risky and gets you nothing that the official update won't deliver later.

To check, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

Common misreadings

"Goes global" does not mean every S23 can update today. It means the first regions outside Korea have started, beginning with beta users.

Seeing no update does not mean your phone is ineligible. TechRepublic makes the same point. Staged rollouts reach regions and carriers on different days.

The Galaxy S23 FE is a different model. Its One UI 9 timing is separate from the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra.

What to watch next

Watch for the non-beta European wave, the first African and Middle East builds, and US carrier releases. Also watch for updated Korean release notes, which would show which Galaxy AI features the S23 actually gets. Our full One UI 9 rollout and supported devices page tracks other models, and our list of Samsung phones that miss One UI 9 covers those left out.

FAQ

Will the Galaxy S23 get One UI 9.5?

Samsung has not said. SamMobile calls it unlikely, because One UI 9 uses up the S23's four promised Android upgrades. One UI 9.5 is still in testing, as covered in our report on One UI 9.5 testing on the Galaxy S26.

How long will the Galaxy S23 get security updates?

Samsung promised five years of security updates for a series launched in February 2023. Sammyguru puts the end at around early 2028, and says updates may come less often before then.

What started as troubleshooting for friends and family turned into a habit of writing it all down, then into full guides covering everything from first-boot setup to the quirks of each new Galaxy flagship. At SamsVerge, Montel Anthony covers How-To guides, breaking Samsung news, troubleshooting walkthroughs, and the tips power users rely on — always tested on real devices, not written from a spec sheet. The goal is simple: cut through the jargon and give Galaxy owners answers they can actually use, whether they're setting up a brand-new phone or trying to squeeze another year out of an older one. When a new One UI update drops or a Galaxy device launches, Sam's Guru is usually already elbow-deep in the settings menu, finding out what changed before writing about it.
