Samsung W27: China Launch Event Set for October 29, Specs Not Yet Official

Samsung China has confirmed a W series launch for October 29, 2026. The W27 name, specs and price still come from leaks.

Key takeaways

  • Samsung China will hold its "Heart of the World" W series launch on October 29, 2026, at 16:00 China time.
  • The W27 name and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra base come from tipster Ice Universe and Chinese retail channels, not from Samsung.
  • Samsung has announced no market outside mainland China.

Samsung will launch its next W series foldable in China on October 29, 2026. IT Home and Android Authority report that Samsung China posted the 16:00 event on Weibo and its official website.

The teaser does not name the phone. "W27" comes from tipster Ice Universe and from a Samsung authorized store preview that IT Home reported.

What Samsung's teaser shows

According to IT Home, the official poster shows the silhouettes of two foldable phones. Android Authority says the image shows a book-style foldable with a gold-colored frame. It also reports that Samsung's linked page has "W2026" in its URL.

That is all Samsung itself has put out. It has shared no specs, prices, colors or model count.

How credible the W27 leak is

Ice Universe posted an image of a dark blue phone with a gold frame and a gold camera island. GSMArena notes that the triple camera layout and pill-shaped island match the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. In a follow-up comment, Ice Universe claimed both phones share the same specs, according to Android Authority.

The pattern supports the claim. IT Home and GSMArena reported that last year's W26 was a Galaxy Z Fold 7 underneath. Samsung's own W26 product page lists the same 4.2 mm unfolded thickness and 215 g weight as the Fold 7.

The two silhouettes leave room for doubt. Qudong notes it is unclear whether the W27 builds on the Fold 8 or the Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung's 2026 lineup has both, as covered in our Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 comparison.

If the spec claim holds, the W27 would carry the Fold 8 Ultra hardware. Gadgets360 and Android Authority list that as a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, an 8-inch main screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen. Both screens run at 120Hz. The phone also has 200MP, 50MP and 10MP rear cameras and a 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired charging.

What the W26 premium tells you about W27 pricing

The W26 shows what Samsung charges for the W badge. The table below combines China Telecom's launch pricing with Samsung China's own price list.

StorageGalaxy Z Fold 7Samsung W26W26 premium
512GBCNY 14,999 (12GB RAM)CNY 16,999 (16GB RAM)CNY 2,000
1TBCNY 17,499 (16GB RAM)CNY 18,999 (16GB RAM)CNY 1,500

At 1TB, both phones have 16GB of RAM. That CNY 1,500 bought design, packaging and China-specific extras. China Telecom lists Tiantong satellite calling and SMS on the W26. Samsung China's W26 page lists a Kevlar case, a telecom benefits card, a cable and a charger in the box.

IT Home and Gadgets360 put the Fold 8 Ultra's China starting price at CNY 14,999. Samsung has not said whether the W27 will keep the W26's price gap or satellite support.

Launch timeline compared with the W26

China Telecom says the W26 launched on October 11, 2025, and went on sale on October 17. That is six days from launch to sale.

The W27 event falls 18 days later in the calendar. IT Home reports first store pickups on November 5, seven days after the event. Samsung has not confirmed that date.

Who this affects

ReaderWhat changes
Buyers in mainland ChinaA pricier Fold 8 Ultra variant arrives within days
Fold 8 Ultra ownersNothing, if the same-specs claim holds
Buyers outside ChinaNothing announced. Samsung has named no other market

The W series is a China Telecom partnership dating back to 2008, according to China Telecom. Samsung's W26 offers were limited to mainland China units. For the global foldable picture, see Samsung's share of the book-style foldable market.

Three mistakes in early W27 coverage

Samsung has not announced the W27. It announced an event. Headlines that say otherwise are ahead of the facts.

The W26 was not a Fold 6. SamMobile described it as Fold 6-based. Samsung China lists the W26 next to the Fold 7, and launch coverage confirmed the Fold 7 base.

The date is not October 27. MT Today reported October 27 earlier this month. Samsung's teaser says October 29.

What this means for you

If you are buying in China, wait for October 29 pricing before you commit. For the W26, Samsung's designated stores took a CNY 2,000 deposit. Samsung's terms said each store sets its own refund method. Ask the store about refunds before you pay for a W27 reservation.

If the Fold 8 Ultra already meets your needs, the leak points to the same hardware. The W26 premium paid for finish, bundle and satellite access inside China. Fold 8 Ultra software support follows our One UI 9 rollout tracker.

Outside China, there is nothing to act on yet. Any purchase would mean importing the phone.

What would confirm or kill the leak

On October 29, watch for four things. First, the official name. Second, whether the chip and camera match the Fold 8 Ultra. Third, whether one model or two appear. Fourth, the price gap against CNY 14,999.

A second model would undercut the single Fold 8 Ultra theory. Satellite support and the RAM tiers will show whether Samsung repeated the W26 formula. Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold already sits above the W26 in Samsung China's price list. W27 pricing will show where the W series now fits.

FAQ

What does "Heart of the World" mean?
It is the English name of Samsung's Chinese W series brand, 心系天下. Kuai Keji says the line began in December 2008 with the W699. Kuai Keji also reports that the series has used Galaxy Z Fold hardware since the W20.

Can I buy the Samsung W27 outside China?
Samsung has not announced any market beyond mainland China. W series phones are sold through Samsung China and China Telecom channels. Samsung's W26 purchase offers applied only to mainland China retail units.
